What is the difference between a skilled nursing and an assisted living community?
The Balmoral Care Center Provides 24/7 skilled nursing care, including medical treatments, wound care, medication management, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Residents typically require a high level of medical attention, plus assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs).
The Highlands Assisted Living at Lake Forest Place is a senior living option that offers personalized assistance with ADLs and help with other daily tasks as needed, but does not provide 24/7 skilled nursing care.
Do Skilled Nursing residents receive access to rehabilitative services?
Yes, the Balmoral Care Center offers a comprehensive rehabilitation center that provides occupational, speech, and physical therapies. Each resident’s treatment plan is tailored to their specific needs, focusing on enhancing their quality of life and facilitating recovery from illness, injury, or hospital stay.
What does Medicare cover in a Skilled Nursing Facility?
Medicare covers services provided by or under the supervision of registered nurses or therapists, including wound care, intravenous medications, and monitoring of vital signs and medical equipment.
Keep in mind that Medicare covers up to 100 days of skilled nursing care per benefit period. A benefit period starts when you are admitted to a hospital or skilled nursing facility and ends when you have not received inpatient care for 60 days in a row.
You can find more information about Medicare coverage for skilled nursing facilities on the official Medicare website.
