There are many differences between different types of care.

Independent Living is designed for those who:

• Can live safely without any assistance or supervision
• Desire a lifestyle of convenience
• Would enjoy a range of lifestyle benefits and a social environment

Assisted Living communities are designed for older adults who need regular support and health services but do not need a nurse on a daily basis. Assistance provides support with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as:

• Meals
• Laundry
• Bathing
• Dressing
• Medication reminders

Skilled Nursing provides the necessary long-term care for those who:

• Need a nurse or certified nursing assistant on a daily basis
• Have chronic conditions
• Require a skilled caregiver in our nursing care center

Continuing Care or Life Plan refers to the fact that in addition to Independent Living, all levels of care are available to residents on the same campus. LifeCare in our Arlington Heights community includes Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Rehabilitation, and specialized Memory Support. In addition, all levels of care can be accessed directly by those living outside the retirement community.

No. In fact, last year more than 700 non-residents recuperated from surgery or benefited from Rehab in our Health Care Center. Our Rehabilitative services include physical and occupational therapy, and speech/language pathology.

A number of couples living at Presbyterian Living do not share the same health. On an individual basis, we can create a program that may include one spouse in Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing, and the other in a nearby Independent Living apartment.

It’s an up-front sum to help cover community operating expenses and offer access to continuing care for life at predictable rates. It also ensures priority access to higher levels of healthcare, in case you ever need it. Your entrance fee is based on the size of residence you choose and the number of occupants.

The Independent Living monthly service fees vary based on the size of your residence and the number of occupants. This comprehensive fee covers a variety of services and amenities, including your meal plan, maintenance, housekeeping, utilities, scheduled transportation, concierge services, fitness center, activities and events, and much more.

It’s surprisingly affordable. Each community has its own selection of residences with corresponding prices. Residences range in size from 500 square feet to over 4,000 square feet.

Each community offers both refundable and nonrefundable entrance fees, combined with an ongoing monthly service fee. More specific information about each campus is part of the Guide to Costs and Benefits.

Some Presbyterian Living retirement communities offer a rental option for select apartments. In addition, those who move directly into Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing can rent from month to month and do not pay an entrance fee.

Our communities offer flexible dining options. Three meals are available each day; however, most residents will still cook many of their meals in their beautiful kitchens. Each resident is provided a monthly discretionary dollar allowance to spend as they choose, for dining, salon services, or in our on-site stores. If desired, residents may also dine out.

Not always. Many of our communities do maintain a Future Resident List. But, since the lists are residence-specific, some residences do become available from time to time. The key to our Future Resident Lists is to join early and use the time to plan a successful move.
